As we wrote about yesterday, Mitten Fest is the thing to do this weekend. The annual Bay View block party gets everyone off their couch and out into the great (read: cold) outdoors. Drop some cash on their unrivaled beer selections, an assembly-line Old Fashioned, or just listen to some great (free) live music while donating to a good cause.
Though Mother Nature pulled a fast one on us the last few weekends and made it too warm, winter has returned with a vengeance this week. That means the Third Ward’s wondrous ice bars, which we featured from last year, are finally back again. This time they’ve expanded to all three corners of St Paul & Broadway: St Paul Fish Company, Benelux, and The Wicked Hop.
A roaring success last year, the Urban Candlelight Hike in Three Bridges Park in the Menomonee Valley is back again this year with 2 miles of easy strolling along Milwaukee’s beautiful, forgotten third river. Grab some hot chocolate, pastries, smores, and more along the route, snow-or-shine.
I had to add this first-time event in the list because I really don’t know what to expect (which is an exciting thing in local events). What we do know: cosmetology students will be competing in a haircut competition in 4 categories: Traditional Cut, Crispiest Beard, Fastest Fade, and Unique Design. For five bucks, I’ll watch some crazy hair cutting contest.
NOT TO DO
1) Root for anyone but the Packers in the Super Bowl
There’s always next year (unless you’re Tom Brady, in which case there’s always this year).
