TO DO

1) 2017 Wisconsin Black Arts Festival (all ages)
Friday – Sunday 10/17-19: Wisconsin African American Women’s Center (Midtown); 1pm – 12am ($5)

Just up on the near west side of downtown, the WAAW is throwing a 3-day festival celebrating modern artistic interpretations of the Black community. Vendors, crafts, film, and spoken word will be featured each day, including late-night open mic and poetry performances.

2) Baconfest Milwaukee 2017 (all ages with adult chaperone)
Sunday 02/19: Potawatomi Hotel & Casino (Menomonee Valley); 11:30am – 4pm ($35)

The 6th annual Baconfest Milwaukee, presented by Patrick Cudahy and 102.9 THE HOG (natch), is back and baconier than ever. Besides the included apron and oven mitt each entrant gets, there’s essentially unlimited tastings of bacon-inspired and featured dishes from local restaurants. Some quick favorites: bacon chocolate chip cookies, bacon-wrapped ham, and baconnaise smothered bacon crackers topped with bacon.

3) 20th Annual Midwinter Brewfest (21+)
Sunday 02/19: Milwaukee Ale House (Third Ward); 1pm – 5pm ($45)

The granddaddy of Milwaukee beer festivals is back to celebrate 20 years of giving to the MACC Fund. Sponsored by perennial favorite MKE Brewing Company, you can expect live music, raffle tickets, food from local vendors, and of course plenty of beer to sample.

NOT TO DO

1) Ever again come back from vacation

All photos by Joe Powell.

Luckily there’s enough to do in Milwaukee this weekend to distract me from the fact that we just left the beautiful(ly-warm) Key West. One of my arms is tan.
