1) Doors Open Milwaukee 2017 (all ages)
All weekend: All over Milwaukee; Many times (mostly free)
We wrote about Doors Open Milwaukee in previous years, and this revolutionary and extraordinary local event is back and bigger than ever. It’s amazing how many buildings, both iconic and completely hidden, are open to the public for one weekend only. Our biggest recommendations: Jones Island Waste Reclamation Facility, Wisconsin Conservatory of Music, and Sanger House Gardens.
2) Walker’s Point 5th Street Fest (all ages)
Saturday 09/23: 5th Street (Walker’s Point); 12pm – 10pm (free)
It’s about gosh-darn time Walker’s Point had their own, branded street festival. What to expect from this freshman fest? Why, everything this burgeoning neighborhood has to offer: craft beer, ethnic food, drag shows, ballet, art, and local orgs. Not to be passed up.
Gear up from next week’s Milwaukee Film Festival by watching some trailers and previews for this year’s Black Lens program features. Light apps and dranks, great convos with involved community members, and sneak-peaks at some of this festival seasons’ darlings round out a great Saturday night at the chic 88Nine RadioMilwaukee.
NOT TO DO
Fear and loathing in Chicago.
