For all you guilt-laden Catholics and non-guilt laden other Christians out there, it’s almost time to give up chocolate or alcohol or (the Pope’s favorite) “indifference towards others” for 40 days during Lent. But lucky for us, French-God bestowed upon the world the loophole that is “shove everything bad for you in your face in one day”: Mardi Gras, aka Fat Tuesday. Milwaukee may not be historically known for its French population, or even its Catholic one, but we’ll be damned if we don’t celebrate excess with the rest of them. Here’s just a few big Mardi Gras festivities around town for you to indulge in next week, Tuesday February 28th.

Maxie’s (Bluemound Heights)
For 10 years the city’s preeminent Cajun restaurant has been throwing a 2-day feast, with $4 Abita beers, $5 Hurricanes, and “a special NOLA menu”. This year’ll feature the Extra Crispy Brass Band and an outdoor heated party tent to boot.

Red White & Blue (Westown)
This Country dance club turns into Bourbon Street for one night only. “Open bar” 9pm-10pm, $1.50 Rails & domestic taps 10pm-2am, and $1.50 Bombs 9pm-2am (if you like getting weird on a Tuesday night). No cover, and some sort of “$500 CASH bead contest.” I assume the winner is whomever gets the most beads. I’ll let you figure out how to collect them.

The Brass Alley (Westown)
Another rare Milwaukee Cajun restaurant and bar, The Brass Alley (and upstairs’ Evolution MKE ping pong bar) will be throwing what they dub “Milwaukee’s BIGGEST MARDI GRAS PARTY!” True, not many other places are offering Stilt Walkers + Dancers + Jugglers + Fire Eater + DJ, and a giveaway trip for 2 to Abita Brewing in New Orleans.

Coquette Cafe (Third Ward)
Looking for some learning with your NOLA meal? Coquette Cafe is offering a 4-course meal and wine menu that you get to prepare together along with their house chefs.

The Landing on Layton (St Francis)
Venture down towards the airport to The Landing on Layton and watch planes take off to Louisiana’s Mardi Gras celebration while you enjoy $10 all you can eat food with $6 hurricane drinks.

Potawatomi Hotel & Casino (Menomonee Valley)
After 4 days of festivities, Potawatomi ends Fat Tuesday with marching bands, showgirls, a parade, stilt walkers, jugglers, tarot card readers, and non-stop live music. Plus spin the Mardi Gras wheel to win double payouts.

Pączki Day at the Polish Center of Wisconsin (Franklin)
Don’t forget to fill your face with the delectable Polish staples, pączkis.

Sweet Perfections Bake Shoppe Pączki Eating Contest (Waukesha)
Need more pączkis? Sweet Perfections is hosting a booze-filled pączki eating contest!

The Brass Tap (Greenfield)
Need even MORE pączkis? Pair 4 Abita beers with 4 treats at The Brass Tap.

The Phoenix Cocktail Club (East Town)
Newly-opened The Phoenix Cocktail Club is bringing the party downtown with Twisted Path Distillery slinging their drinks all night, while also paying homage to the 20 year anniversary of the Packers Super Bowl XXXI victory in New Orleans.

The Pub Club (Westown)
Is it a good idea to pair a $500 cash drop on the dance floor at midnight with a $10 all you can drink deal? We’ll find out at The Pub Club.

Leff’s Lucky Town (Wauwatosa)
$5.00 Southern Comfort Hurricanes, $5.00 Swamp Juice (extra swampy), and a Fat Tuesday “Wheel of Prizes” will ensure this bar is full of people dancing to the live music from Brewtown Beat.

Old German Beer Hall (Westown)
Hey, Germans can celebrate Karneval too. Pair your gumbo with a half-priced Hofbrau Delikator and mash some cultures together.

And don’t forget to repent for your gluttony on Ash Wednesday at one of Milwaukee’s fine Catholic masses.
