Greetings and Salutations My Good Friends,

“Of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, Welcome to Thursdays walked into mine”

Join the adventure this week as we travel to Casablanca on Brady Street. Casablanca is full of culture, excitement, and amazing drinks! If you are adventurous, plan to take in some of its famous flavored Hookah! There is plenty to do at Casablanca; whether you see one of their exciting & entertaining musical nights or decide to dive into their amazing Middle Eastern menu, Casablanca is out to give you one heck of an experience! Dating back to 1987, when it was once called “The Sahara Inn” this establishment has held strong and has become a Milwaukee classic. Its name became Casablanca from the inspiration of the amazing 1942 classic film. Speaking of that film, I did some extensive research and was able to get my hands on the original script. After reading up on it, it came to my surprise that the original script was quite different indeed…

So according to history, Michael Curtiz, the director of Casablanca, had a strong love for Old Milwaukee – as all of us do; but his love was so strong that he wanted to write a film centered around the beer. The original script was simply about a night club that rejoiced the great taste and refreshment of Old Milwaukee. The club had music and parties every night to celebrate the amazing brew. It was not until Warrer Bros. saw the first cut that they made Curtiz do re-writes. Furious and outraged by this, he decided to make the film much darker and give it the tone and feel that has today. I am not saying that Casablanca is not good, I feel quite opposite and find it to be one of my favorite films. What I am saying, is what if the original was the one that we saw on the big screen? Just some food for thought to ponder on, maybe we can talk about it this Thursday over a cocktail or two.

Welcome to Thursdays is honestly the best place to be on Thursday Nights! I’m not saying this only to make you go, I’m saying it because it’s true. Inside of us, we know you belong here with the Thursdays group; you are part of what makes it so special, the thing that keeps it going. If I close my tab and you’re not here, you’ll regret it. Maybe not today. Maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of your life. We will always have Milwaukee. We didn’t have, we were lost until Welcome to Thursdays came to Milwaukee. We get it every Thursday night. And Welcome to Thursdays will never stop, we have a job to do, where we are going has no limits. People don’t see the greatness of Milwaukee and someday they will understand it, so I suppose all I am saying is……….Here’s looking at you Thursdians. (Confused?)

As time goes by, yours respectfully,

Jeremy Blandin
