Greetings and Salutations My Most Noble and Humble Thursdians,
September is here and that can only mean one thing: football is back! Just like my favorite sandwich (Peanut Butter and Salami) Milwaukee and football make a great couple. Saturdays are now filled with the sounds of “On Wisconsin” and on Sundays, “Go Pack Go” can be heard in every corner pub. Yes, autumn in Milwaukee is one happy place to be, just like this Thursday at Lee’s Luxury Lounge. Travel with us as we go to a Bay View establishment that has truly seen change in its lifetime. 2017 marks the 90th birthday for the Lee’s building; in that time it has functioned as a tavern, insurance company, a doughnut shop and more! Today it stands as one awesome place, with a huge variety of beer, and activities like pool, darts, and even shuffle board. With great drinks, great service, and great friends there is no better place to be this Thursday than Lee’s Luxury Lounge!
It would appear that I have forgotten to mention one of the activities available at the bar this Thursday, it must be because at first I didn’t believe it to be true. The game of skee-ball is not one to trifle with, especially not at Lee’s. After doing some extensive research, I have found the legendary tale behind the two alleys you will see at Lee’s.
It is written in the historical Tomes of Old Milwaukee that a man by the name of Leopold Englenshire migrated to Wisconsin in 1912, in search for something more in his life. He had heard of the booming beer industry coming out of Wisconsin and decided to start his new life here. When he arrived, he found himself constantly searching for work and it was not until late on a cold Autumn night that he found himself in a rowdy tavern that was holding a local skee-ball tournament. Leopold had never played skee-ball; but with the first place winner receiving a free internship working for Old Milwaukee, he figured he had nothing to lose.
It turned out that Leopold was quite the skee-ball player and some of the higher ups took notice of this. After winning the Internship, Old Milwaukee made him head of skee-velopment, a position that has since been removed. There was a yearly tournament that went on down in Chicago called the ABSI (American Brewery Skee-Ball Invitational). Every year it was always the same: Anheuser-Busch took it all.
The year of 1912 would play to a different tune, as Leopold went on to play the most miraculous and amazing skee-ball anyone had ever seen, winning the tournament with a record of 50-0. His glorious play has stood the test of time, and because of it, once you win 50 tickets playing skee-ball at Lee’s the next Old Mil’ is on them. So let us raise a glass of Old Milwaukee to Lee’s Luxury Lounge and Leopold Englenshire this Thursday night.
