Greetings and Salutations my Friends,

For this Thursday night adventure, I invite you all to travel with us as we take on Black Husky Brewing Company. This company is no normal brewery; they have quite the history, and it starts with some humble beginnings. Nestled in the small town of Pembine, Wisconsin, Tim and Toni Eichenger made beer in their log cabin. This beer was inspired by the huskies from their son’s sled dog kennel. After an exponential demand for their brews, they moved their brewery to Milwaukee’s Riverwest neighborhood– where we will gather Thursday.

Black Husky Brewing is home to some truly delicious brews and I for one am very much looking forward to trying some! On a side note, they are only open till 9; so late comers should know we may be somewhere else after that time. Also, if you have a canine friend that would like to come out and join the fun, Black Husky Brewing allows dogs. Speaking of dogs, this brings me back to one of the greatest tales of all time. If you remember the tale of Yogi the beer running bichon from my article on Club Brady, then you will love the tale of Yogi the 11th and his historic run to greatness in the “unofficial” first running of Iditarod.

It was 1925 and in the small town of Nome, Alaska had just had a terrible outbreak of diphtheria. The only way to get any sort of medicine into the town was with dog sleds. What I’m about to explain will eventually be referred to as the Great Race of Mercy, to commend the dogs who so bravely saved the people of Nome.

Now we were told that Balto was the lead sled dog in the final stretch of the Great Race of Mercy – but that is where they were wrong. After doing extensive research, I have found that Yogi the 11th, yet another beer running bichon, actually took the lead on this run. You see the story goes that Yogi wanted to fit in no matter where he was, and in this case he found himself living among some of the world’s greatest sled dogs – so Yogi considered himself a sled dog as well. All the other dogs laughed at him while he tried to fit in, and he was always told to sit in back with the driver.

The day of the final stretch, the lead dog hurt his paw from all the running; unsure as to what to do, the head driver looked down below his feet and saw Yogi. When he looked in the eyes of Yogi, he saw one thing: pure determination. After strapping Yogi in and giving him a quick drink of some Old Mil, the sled took off. At blazing speeds Yogi pulled the entire cart in record time and got the healing serum to Nome in time to save many lives. Let’s raise a glass to Yogi, The Great Race of Mercy, and all the other Welcome to Thursday furry friends.

Cheers my Friends (and furry friends)!

Your Co-Founder and Friend,
