Greetings and Salutations,

It’s a funny thing, day in and day out; we live our lives going through the motions as best we can – but sometimes, all we really need to do is take a step back and breathe. We need to appreciate the little things, like a cold one with your friends on an autumn night in Milwaukee.

This Thursday join the Thursdays crew as we take a step back, both figuratively and in time, as we travel to the Landmark 1850 Inn.  This is Milwaukee’s oldest tavern, with the building dating all the way back to 1850! Offering an amazing selection of beers on tap and some absolutely top notch service, Landmark 1850 is definitely the place to be this Thursday. Speaking of time travel, this place does not mess around. Take a moment and look around to notice some pretty amazing details, like the original registers or the copper ceiling! Don’t pass up the opportunity to get your grub on as well, as the Landmark offers a pretty great selection of pub fare.

A building that has been around since 1850 surely has quite the history, and I am happy to say Landmark is no different. After doing some extensive research, I discovered that back in 1850 the Landmark (originally called The New Coeln House) was a stagecoach stop for the trip between Milwaukee and Racine. More famously though, this stop is known for being the finish line for one Milwaukee man’s crowning achievement.  Johannes Schtelinstein holds the record for largest can of beer to be delivered by a horse-drawn wagon. Of course, the beer being transported was the World Famous Old Milwaukee. The reasoning behind this feat is unknown. Some say it was to win the love of a woman; some say Johannes lost a bet – but whatever the reason, Johannes holds a record that will live forever in Milwaukee history at the Landmark 1850 Inn. Come on out this week as we lift a cold one for Johannes and Milwaukee.

Talk about a special delivery….

Cheers my friends!

Jeremy Blandin

PS- Reminder that next Thursday (October 12th) is Parents Night! I encourage all who come to bring their parents out to Von Trier for a night of laughs, drinks, and good times for all!

*Keeping your glass filled and spirits high one Thursday at a time, this is Welcome to Thursdays: a local social group determined to make your Thursdays more fun. Each Wednesday, The Squeaky Curd features a (generally) fictitious story of a Milwaukee County bar that we gather at on Thursday evening. Join us this Thursday, October 5, 2017 at Landmark 1850 Inn, 5905 S Howell Ave (near Mitchell International Airport) at 7:30pm.*
