Greetings and Salutations my most humble Thursdians,

What do you get when you take the ideals of the roaring 20’s, an amazing staff, and one heck of a kitchen? You get Flappers out of West Allis, a bar that I am very much looking forward to! Not only have I heard from multiple people that the food is amazing, but from the looks of their offerings online, they have a wide range of delicious-looking “Flappetizers”; from wings to volcano potato skins, you are likely to find something to satisfy your hunger. On the drink front, Flappers offers nightly drink specials. The location on lively Becher street gives this bar a life of its own, and is sure to give Welcome to Thursdays one night they soon won’t forget!

Let’s go back in time….It’s the 1920s, for the first time ever, more and more people are choosing the city life over the farm life. The economy is thriving and giving America a new form of livelihood. Music, dance, and an overall consumer-based lifestyle fills the nightlife and the streets are alive. The melodic sounds of Al Jolson’s “I’m Sitting on Top of the World” filled the night sky and America was indeed on the track of change. Enter in the “Flapper”: a freer woman, one who liked to drink, smoke, and was free of all past constraints. A woman who knew she was just as deserving of a good time as any man!

Unfortunately, this was also at the same time as that darn 18th Amendment, which prohibited the manufacturing and sale of intoxicating liquors. This, of course, was the biggest crime of all. Anytime you prohibit the sale of Old Milwaukee and other spirits, you take away the very core of what makes life so magical. Imagine having to constantly be on your guard every Thursday night, imagine having to constantly look over your shoulder in fear that this may well be your very last Old Milwaukee! Makes you appreciate the little things, like going out to a different bar every Thursday and ordering a delicious cocktail or Old Milwaukee free of fear and trouble. Flappers in West Allis represents a unique time, a time of discovery and expression. Let’s get out to Flappers this Thursday and drink to an era of music, expression, and courage. Let’s raise one for those who couldn’t!

Oh, and let’s not forget the Charleston! Who wants to bring it back?
