Milwaukee, you just got (Fi)SERV’d!

Unsurprisingly, I was very, very wrong in my completely unsubstantiated claim that the Milwaukee Bucks would play their next season in the Harley Davidson Arena. Instead, as announced last week, the new arena is officially named the Fiserv Forum.

Fiserv is a big-business financial services company based in Brookfield and yada-yada you’ve never heard of them and you won’t ever need to. They’re no Lloyd and Jane Bradley Pettit, Milwaukee royalty who donated boatloads of money to build the Bradley Center. But they’re still a local company willing to shell out untold riches to shove their “proof point” in our noses. Such is life.

Now, with the advent of Twitter and humanity’s unceasing desire to mock everything, we’re a few days late to the “what’s in a name?” game. But, since we seem incapable of letting any Bucks-related name stay what it actually is, we have some thoughts on this whole Fiserv Forum phrase:

Alternative Nicknames
  • DearMKE‘s “Four-One-Forum” is pretty spot-on.

  • The Serv” sounds more apt for a tennis or volleyball arena, but one-syllable words are easier.
  • Brew Hoop’s comment sections often turn up gold, like “The Keg” for how the arena’s shape appears, plus our affinity for “Roll Out The Barrel”.
  • Keeping with the alliteration and an homage to the Bucks’ namesake animal, how about we call it “The Fiserv Fieldhouse“.
Promotional Taglines
  • “Beat boredom at The Forum”
  • “Giannis: adore’m at The Forum”
  • “Bow before’m at The Forum”
  • To help with the Bucks and NBA fan code of conduct: “Please practice decorum at The Forum”
  • On a night celebrating our state’s farming heritage: “Cultivate sorghum at The Forum”
  • Anytime we score everyone gets “High-Fis’s” instead of high fives.
  • In a re-imagining of Wayne Larrivee‘s famous tagline: “And there’s…your…PROOF-POINT!”

If the Bucks bring us a championship, I don’t think Milwaukee will care much what the name of the building was. Leggo Bango.
