*Keeping your glass filled and spirits high one Thursday at a time! We introduce The Squeaky Curd readers to Welcome to Thursdays, a local social group determined to make your Thursdays more fun. Each Wednesday we feature a hilariously fictitious history of a Milwaukee County bar that we gather at on Thursday evening – join us weekly!*

Greetings and Salutations my most honorable Thursdians,

Giuseppe Garibaldi once said, “give me the ready hand rather than the ready tongue”. At the time, this quote had heavy meaning to the Italian formation of a unified Italy; the same cannot be said about Club Garibaldi in Bay View (2501 S. Superior Street). You see, when you enter Club G’s you will not only need a ready hand, but also a ready tongue and a ready ear because this establishment is fortified in complete harmony: amazing wings, excellent drinks, and (if you are lucky) amazing live music. Welcome to Thursdays is in for one heck of a night as we travel out hungry and ready for great people and great times.

The man that named it all.

The man that named it all. Giuseppe Garibaldi.

The Joeseph Schlitz Brewing Co. built the Club Garibaldi building in 1907; thus, this historical site served as the corner tavern to the hard working people of Bay View. At the time, the Iron Works Bay View Rolling Mill was just down the road and the local workers needed a place to kick back and just relax after a long day.

What is it that makes Club Garibaldi such an appealing place? It has all the basics of a classic Milwaukee bar down pat. For starters: a friendly staff with a great bar. As you walk in, you’ll see a “formica” bar inviting you in with some familiar golden friends named Pabst and Schlitz sitting behind it. Next, you need to have the right atmosphere; for me, the greatest part of a bar is the feeling. Here, I feel like I’m standing in the middle of a thousand different stories from the Club G history. The classic Milwaukee bar can be a place where best friends are made or lovers are lost – but no matter what, there is always a story to be told. The low-lit essence and the bright blue glow of the oh-so-welcoming Pabst sign also make it feel like a familiar sanctuary. Lastly, as a bonus: the wings. I have only had them once, but it solidified that these wings stand strong among the best of ’em in Milwaukee.
