Greetings and Salutations,

A big shout out to all those who battled the hustle and bustle of last week’s Thursday night destination: The Loaded Slate. Unfortunately, it was so packed the Thursdays crew was spread out and no group picture was taken, but none the less we still had one heck of a good time. This week we turn the dial back both in time and speed, as we travel to Klinger’s East: a classic Milwaukee dive that has been serving patrons since the building was built back in 1906! Not always run under the name of Klinger’s, the building on E Locust has always played the role of tavern or “soda parlor” during prohibition. Known for their Friday fish fry, Klinger’s is a classic Milwaukee bar with great drinks, great food (they say they have the best butter burger in town) and amazing people. Let’s get out to Klinger’s this Thursday and have a few drinks and laughs!

Many people don’t know the inspiration behind this Thursday’s establishment: Captain Cornelius “Old Mil” Klinger, the greatest sea captain to ever sail the sea. People who knew him said that his gaze alone could stop the mightiest of waves. He claimed that he was fluent in “seagull” and that many of them were his friends. He gave up water to drink more Old Milwaukee and claimed that it brought him closer to being one with the sea.

Unfortunately, many of his shipmates admit that he was constantly drunk –  so drunk that he possibly forgot what it was like to be sober, but none the less the Cap sailed on. He was known by many, as the turnover rate of his crew was extremely high; most of them claimed that they would sail with no destination. One sailor spoke of an instance where Cornelius dove into the deep just to pick a fight with a shark because he “looked funny”. The funny part is, Cornelius won that fight and followed up by giving the shark a cold Old Mil. Yes, Captain Klinger was indeed a legendary man and this Thursday I will certainly drink to his shark-fightin’ legacy.
